For some reason lately I’ve been fascinated with psychological studies. I’ve been specifically tripping out on a certain study conducted by Stanely Milgram at Yale University in 1963. The study looked focused on obedience to authority. This has always been a fascination of mine, probably cause I have issues with authority. But after being within the corporate world for a few years now, the study is coming back to me with totally different implications.
Why do we obey authority? Probably to keep order and structure in our otherwise chaotic life’s. Thinking that authority exists for our best interest is probably true, but also very sad. How far do we obey? The Milgram experiment demonstrated that people will obey authority to an astonishing level, even causing harm to somebody else. terrible. Crushing human will and creativity, or even containing it into authoritative blocks is a bad thing (my opinion).

This may sound odd, but last night I had a very vivid and comprehensive dream about Steve Wozniak.
the plot goes something like this…
I’m on vacation in a cabin somewhere in the middle of the woods, hunting/fishing type of scenario. My Dad is there and he brought a drinking buddy of his, the Woz. If you don’t know who Steve Wozniak is, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steve_Wozniak. In the late to mid 70’s, two Steves started a little company called Apple Computers. Steve Jobs was on of the Steves, and the other,,,, the Woz.
The rest of the plot was akin to some sort of Design peptalk/englightment/coaching. The lucid chats I had with Steve Wozniak woke me up to some new found excitement. Innovation.

The war in Iraq just now came close to my world. Last night I received news that Army Sgt. Timothy M. Smith, was killed in Iraq by an IED. This news comes after the recent milestone of 4,000 coalition casualties in Iraq. This was the first person that I knew personally that was killed in this war, or any war for that matter. It’s really making me evaluate life, death and war. My thoughts are with Timmy’s family.

Feeling a bit confused lately, I decided to go where I know all of the answers reside, google. Google “love”. I know your curious about what the wise, all knowing goog has to say about the L word. I’ve summarized the SERPS for ya.
Top Google Search Results for Love
1) Love - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia - A very lengthy article (as expected from Wikipedia) about love. Very ironic that the image up top is ‘The Kiss’ by Gustav Klimt. Wikipedia being the repository of all knowledge on the web, has got to be a good place to start. It is a very complete reference, outlining the biological, psychological and sociological explanations of love. But, alas, no magic bullet for me.
2)The Love Calculator - a super cheezy little tool. How this ranks #2 for Love on Google is way beyond my comprehension.
3)Love - Cirque du Soleil show in Vegas, the one with the Beatles soundtrack. I’ve been wanting to see this show.
I went through the first 3 results, didn’t find anything, and carried on, in my confused state. I did find a quote in the wiki article that hit me… “Studies have shown that brain scans of those infatuated by love display a resemblance to those with a mental illness”…. or is it a statement? Damn. Thats some scary shat.

According to Wikipedia, migraine headaches are “severe or moderate headache (which is often one-sided and pulsating) lasting from four to 72 hours,[5] accompanied by gastrointestinal upsets, such as nausea and vomiting, and a heightened sensitivity to bright lights and noise.”
People who suffer from this very painful type of headache, may have a new option for treatment. Ok, not so new treatment. I was able to find numerous articles on the Internet, explaining how sex can cure the common migraine headache. The articles almost all cite the serotonin releasing activity as a possible remedy. I was able to find a academic study done at the University of Indiana, that has scientific evidence that sex can stop a migraine.

Long haired apartheid. Discrimination has existed throughout history and is quite well documented, but today I found a little gem of history that sheds some light on a somewhat unknown type. Did you know that until the late 60’s, men with long hair were excluded from enjoying the pleasure of Disneyland? This blew my mind, man.

Reading my home town news today I found an article about the South Tahoe High School music teacher, Bob Grant. http://tahoedailytribune.com/article/20080321/NEWS/876398580
Bob was one of the many teachers that made a huge impact on my life. I was lucky enough to be in the first class he taught, 4th grade, 18 years ago at Tahoe Valley Elementary. He sparked my interest in electrical circuits and computers. In High School he was my music teacher, where he helped foster my love for music of all kinds.
He is one of those educators that left an indelible mark on my life. His focus on “educating” and not just teaching is what sticks in my mind. If your reading this Bob; sorry for causing you grief and by the way I made it through my teenage angst (mostly).
Thanks Bob!
